How Much Do Movers Cost in Dubai? A Real Price Guide

Ask five Dubai moving companies for a price and you will get five very different numbers — sometimes varying by a factor of three for the same job. That is not because the work differs. It is because some companies quote the move and others quote only the part of the move they intend to tell you about up front.

This guide gives you the real bands, explains what genuinely drives the price, and lists the specific extras that get added on moving day so you can ask about them before you book rather than after.

What a move actually costs in Dubai

These are the bands a straightforward local move within Dubai falls into, assuming a lift-served building and no unusual access problems. Villa figures include garden and garage contents.

The five things that actually change your price

  • Volume, not bedroom count. A sparsely furnished 3 BHK can cost less than a densely packed 2 BHK. This is why a survey matters more than a phone estimate.
  • Floor level and lift access. A fourth-floor walk-up can add 40–60% in labour over the same flat in a lift-served tower. Deira and older Bur Dubai buildings are where this bites hardest.
  • Carry distance. If the truck cannot park at the entrance, every item is carried further. Marina podium restrictions and souk-area streets both create this.
  • Packing. Full professional packing typically adds AED 350 to AED 2,500 depending on property size. It is usually cheaper bundled with the move than bought separately.
  • Dismantling and specialist items. Wardrobes, bunk beds, gym equipment, pianos, marble tops and chandeliers all need more time, more crew or custom crating.

Six charges that get added on moving day

Every one of these is a real charge we have seen appear on clients' final invoices from other companies after they were quoted a headline price. Ask about each before you book.

  • Packing materials billed per carton after the move, rather than included.
  • Dismantling and reassembly quoted as a separate line item, discovered on the day.
  • A stairs or long-carry surcharge, applied because no survey was done.
  • Waiting time, charged when the building will not release the service lift — because nobody booked it.
  • Salik, fuel and inter-emirate permits added to intercity moves on arrival.
  • A second-day charge, when the crew sent was too small to finish in one.

Intercity moving costs

Moving out of Dubai to another emirate adds transit cost but not usually a second day. Standard household volumes complete same-day on every UAE route.

How to actually reduce the cost

  • Move mid-month. The last week of any month is peak in Dubai and prices firm up with demand.
  • Declutter before the survey, not after. The quote is priced on volume — selling or donating what you will not use directly reduces it.
  • Pack non-fragile items yourself and let the crew handle the kitchen, glassware and electronics. Partial packing costs much less than full.
  • Book both ends with one company. Move, storage and handyman work bundled together is cheaper than three separate contractors.
  • Be flexible on the day of the week. Weekday moves are easier to schedule than Friday and Saturday, which are the most requested slots.

Frequently asked questions

What is the cheapest way to move in Dubai?

Move mid-month rather than at month-end, declutter before the survey so you are not paying to transport things you will discard, pack the non-fragile items yourself, and get a fixed written quote after a survey so nothing is added later. A single-item or small move priced per item is far cheaper than booking a full truck for a few pieces.

Should I pay a deposit to a moving company in Dubai?

A modest booking deposit is normal practice and secures your date. Be cautious about paying a large proportion of the total in advance, and always get the quote and the deposit receipt in writing with the company's trade licence number on it.

Do movers in Dubai charge VAT?

Yes. VAT at 5% applies to moving services in the UAE. A quote that does not mention VAT is either VAT-inclusive or about to become 5% more expensive — ask which.
